It is a new puzzle every time to combine the clinical data with our histopathological findings to bring out all the information for a correct diagnosis. Hereby, I describe in detail the characteristics of a tumor and discuss the resulting possible treatment with the clinicians. As a pathologist, you also have an educational role in this. What you learn more through your diagnostics and research, you pass on to other clinicians and that benefits care. My focus has always been on complex pathologies. I first specialized in hemato- and melanocytic pathology and later in head and neck, endocrine and soft tissue pathology. In 2020, I received my PhD from the VU medical center, Amsterdam. This research focused on the adjuvant treatment of melanoma with local immunotherapy. In Maastricht, I continue this tumor immunological research combined with tumor molecular research within my areas of interest. My main focus is head and neck, and soft tissue pathology. Pathology at MUMC+ also has a regional expert function. We lead panels where cases from the region are discussed. We get the knowledge from many sources and share it at every level with involved partners.
