Focus: Stroke-thrombosis
Study aims: Stroke is among the most frequent causes of death and disability worldwide. To deeply phenotype cerebral thrombi at cellular and molecular level and integrate this with clinical data, including sex, suspected embolism source, and post stroke mortality, but also cardiovascular risk factors (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, BMI) and medication history, enabling to identify clinically actionable patterns.
Thrombus sampling:
Cohort characteristics
- N=847 thrombectomy samples, of which n=595 obtained from stroke patients, n=200 from STEMI patients (arterial thrombus reference) and 52 samples of venous origin (DVT, pulmonary embolism).
- Extensive clinical data available
- Recorded clinical followup (2 years)
Available resources: H&E image, histology sections (cryo & FFPE); 254 samples formal-fixed
