PhD student, Experimental Vascular Pathology Group

Korte beschrijving

I studied Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences at Leiden University. My first internship of the master was at the BioTherapeutics division of the Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research (LACDR). There, I was part of the Aging and Immunity group and studied the effect of rapamycin treatment on mice with age-induced atherosclerosis. I did my second internship at the Nikon BioImaging Lab where I performed optical tissue clearing on cerebral organoids and rat brains to analyze their structure using fluorescence microscopy. In November 2025, I started as a PhD candidate at the EVP group under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Judith Sluimer and Dr. Pieter Goossens.

Aandachtsgebieden

My research has a mixed focus on macrophages and fibroblasts in vascular aging and atherosclerosis. My main project is a part of the AtheroNeth consortium. This consortium aims to distinguish the risk of cardiovascular events based on the various disease pathways that occur in a heterogeneous patient population, thus moving away from the current “one size fits all” treatment. With the use of multispatial imaging, I will look into differences in local plaque phenotypes associated with clinical presentation and biomarkers.
